Who we are

Hillcrest Forestry is a locally owned forestry consulting firm serving forest owners throughout the Adirondack Park and surrounding North Country. Based in St. Regis Falls, we are a partnership with over a decade of professional experience in forest management across government, industrial, and non-industrial private forestlands.

Our roots are firmly planted in the working forests of northern New York. We believe good forestry is built on a foundation of practical knowledge, honest communication, and respect for the land. Years of hands-on field experience have given us a deep understanding of local forests, timber markets, and the realities of managing land in this region.

As owners of forest land ourselves, we understand that your property is more than just acreage. For many landowners, it represents financial security, outdoor recreation, wildlife habitat, and a legacy to pass on to the next generation. We approach every property with care, integrity, and attention to detail.

Our work is grounded in long-term stewardship. We are committed to responsible forest management that balances economics with sustainability. Whether your goals include generating timber income, improving wildlife habitat, enhancing recreational opportunities, or maintaining the long-term health of your forest, we provide clear guidance and services tailored to your objectives.

We pride ourselves on straightforward advice, thorough planning, and strong relationships with the families we work with. Our role is to advocate for your interests, ensuring your land is managed thoughtfully and productively.

If you are considering a timber harvest, developing a management plan, or simply looking to better understand your property’s potential, we welcome the opportunity to work with you. At Hillcrest Forestry, our goal is to help you make confident, informed decisions that support both your immediate needs and the long-term future of your land.

Tyler Richardson is the owner and lead forester of Hillcrest Forestry, he holds professional certifications through both the International Society of Arboriculture and Society of American Forester, and is a licensed Pesticide Applicator. A North Country native, Tyler was born and raised in Ogdensburg, New York, where he developed a deep appreciation for the forests and rural communities of northern New York.

In 2015, he graduated from the SUNY ESF Ranger School in Wanakena with an Associate degree, launching his professional career in forestry. He spent five years with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), where he conducted forest inventories, managed invasive species control efforts, and marked and administered timber sales on state forests. This experience provided him with a strong foundation in practical silviculture, timber sale oversight, and responsible forest management.

In 2022, Tyler earned his Bachelor’s degree in Ecological Forest Resource Management from Paul Smith’s College. He then spent three years working in the private sector with consulting firms serving landowners from southern Vermont to the northern Adirondacks. During this time, he gained extensive experience working directly with private landowners helping them navigate management planning, timber harvesting, and long-term stewardship decisions.

Today, Tyler and his partner Hillary live on their homestead in St. Regis Falls, where they operate Hillcrest Forestry. His combined experience in public forestry and private consulting allows him to bring both technical expertise and practical, landowner-focused guidance to every property he works on.
